K amaru Usman has a vested interest in the UFC 322 main event where Jack Della Maddalena defends his title against Islam Makhachev.
He may not have the belt yet, but Islam Makhachev already has big plans for his welterweight title reign after UFC 322.
Usman (21-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC) told MMA Junkie on Monday that he is angling to challenge the winner of Saturday's welterweight title headliner between reigning champ Jack Della Maddalena (18-2 MMA, 8-0 UFC) and former lightweight king Makhachev (27-1 MMA, 16-1 UFC), who moves up in weight.
Islam Makhachev still has lofty ambitions in MMA. The former UFC lightweight king is days out from his return in New York City, where he will headline the UFC 322 pay-per-view in competition for the welterweight title.
Although Volkov (39-11 MMA, 13-6 UFC) was taken down seven times and controlled for more than 10 minutes, he was awarded the split decision win over Almeida (22-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) on Saturday's main card at Etihad Arena. Usman explained that Almeida just laid on top of Volkov, and it was the Russian who constantly worked from bottom.
