AP Top 25 poll preview: Top 10 is set to get shuffled after Georgia Tech, Vandy and Miami go down
Three top-10 teams in The Associated Press college football poll lost. No. 9 Vanderbilt fell short in a 34-31 loss to No. 20 Texas, while No. 10 Miami lost 26-20 in overtime at SMU.
After weeks of falling just shy, the Huskies finally cracked the top 25 in the latest Associated Press college football poll. UW checked in at No. 24, marking the first time its been ranked since finishing the 2023 season No. 2 following a loss to Michigan in the national title game.
It seems like Miami's College Football Playoff hopes are done, but the Hurricanes still have a win over a top-10 team (Notre Dame) and dominated a pretty good South Florida team. The Notre Dame win kept Miami ahead of Texas and USC. Neither team holds a win that impressive, and they have flaws in their own right.
Alabama football had the day off Saturday between a win o ver South Carolina and its upcoming matchup with LSU. As a result, the Crimson Tide didn’t move when the latest edition of the AP top 25 poll or the coaches poll top 25 rankings were was released on Sunday.
Six of the 20 active teams lost, with three such defeats coming to unranked teams. Both top 10 ACC teams were among that group.
