HOLYOKE — Dirty, soot-stained firefighting gear was once considered a badge of honor for hardworking firefighters said Holyoke fire Captain David Rex, who joined the department nearly 23 years ago.

City Council recently approved the application for a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant in the amount of $15,663 to purchase a Unimac washer and dryer.
