Google Doodle celebrates Route 66, the highway from Chicago to Los Angeles that serves as a historical touchstone into American culture.

Route 66 Maps + Navigation is finally available for Android. Its Follow Me feature uses your camera and superimposes a lead car that shows you where to drive onto the tablet or smartphone screen.

Taking only Route 66 when possible adds only about 75 miles to the distance, but according to Google Maps the travel time is doubled.
