The first CCC camps in West Virginia were activated on May 20, 1933 in Tucker and Randolph Counties The Civilian Conservation Corps was one of President Franklin Roosevelt's first new deal recovery programs. Young men joined the CCC and were put to work doing soil conservation and public works projects. There were 67 CCC camps in West Virginia serving 55,000 men.
