In fall and winter, Robins will switch their diet from insects to a berry and fruit diet. They are also known to live in sociable flocks usually of 10-50 birds. Often, these flocks include other fruit eating species like cedar waxwings, mockingbird, and pine grosbeaks. By October, Robins start growing more down feathers which will help keep them warm during winter. Robins are nomadic, traveling to find plentiful food sources. They migrate with others to make it easier to spot food and predators.

Robins, such durable and fascinating birds. They typically raise 3 broods each summer. What you are seeing here is are 2nd and 3rd brood orphans. The older one on the bowl is a young juvenile now, nursing a wing injury so not quite ready for release. But in typical Robin manners, we have found the older birds will usually help the younger ones learn how to self feed. Only about 5 weeks old herself, at the 5 sec mark she offers food to the younger fledgling. At the end, she has a mouthful waiting
