Irving Berlin had an unmatched ability to turn simple melodies into songs that felt universally American. Through his music, he captured the spirit of a nation and gave it a voice that still resonates today. Arriving in New York City as a young immigrant, Irving Berlin would go on to become a self-taught songwriter whose music helped define American music.
