Before & After Journey ✨ Our patient’s index finger suffered a devastating DIP injury (the tip nearly fell off!!). Her other digits, 3–5 were also affected (can you guess why??). She could barely move her fingers at all! After surgical reattachment and months of dedicated hand therapy, she’s making an incredible comeback! 🙌 With direct care from a CHT, she’s regaining movement, strength, and control. If you’re going to lose a finger, your best option is actually the index. 🖐️ It sounds wild, but function-wise the index finger is the most ‘replaceable.’ Your middle and ring fingers contribute more to grip strength, while the thumb does most of the heavy lifting for fine motor control. Losing the index finger is still life-altering—but compared to others, people often adapt better and regain more hand function.
