CSX’s newest heritage locomotive commemorates the proud history of the Western Maryland Railway, which formed in 1852! The Western Maryland was a small but mighty railroad that hauled coal and freight in Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania before merging with the B&O and C&O to eventually become part of CSX as we know it today. It’s here! CSX’s fourth in a series of heritage locomotive designs commemorates the Consolidated Rail Corporation, or Conrail, and bears the number 1976, the year the railroad was founded.
