Following the devastation of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Japan undertook a massive reconstruction project to reimagine its coastal defenses. The result is a 395-kilometer-long tsunami seawall system, an engineering marvel with sections towering over 15 meters high designed to withstand extreme ocean forces. Crucially, this defense is not solely concrete. The project incorporates a "Green Wall" initiative, where millions of trees have been planted along the shore. These living barriers work
